Will there be classes?
Yes, For the Basic Sewing Course, Participants must accumulate at least 45 machine hours (attend at least 16 Weekday Classes or 8 Saturday Classes) to complete this program. Lectures and practical sessions are held at our the Centurion Training Centre,
Morning Classes: Weekdays from 9am to 12pm.
Afternoon Classes: Weekdays from 2pm to 5pm.
Saturdays Classes: Saturdays from 8pm to 2pm.
How long is the program for?
The Basic Sewing Course is a 45-Hour Program, and participants must complete their initial program under 2 months. Students are free to choose which days or sessions they wish to attend by pre-booking machine slots throughout the month. The Intermediate Program and Advanced Program are 2 months each, Students are
not compelled to enrol for all 3 programs and can choose to enrol for only one particular level.
How may students per class?
Lectures are limited to 15 students a class and practicals are for 5 students per class.
Are spaces limited?
Yes, we intend to run a small and tight rigorous program and will admit students on a first come first serve basis.
Do i need a qualification to attend?
No, anyone above the age of 16 can attend.

The complete 6-month program is discounted for a once off payment of R15,000, Participants can also register for the full 6-month course and pay R3000 monthly over 6 months.
Will my certificate be accredited?
No, this program should be taken by those who require personal skills development. This main purpose of this program is to introduce fashion design and basic tailoring to participants.
At the end of the program, successful participants should fully understand the operations of an industrial machine and also be able to stitch a basic garment from start to finish.
This 6-month program is open to anyone interested in learning the art of design. Please note that although a certificate of completion will be issued at the end of this program, this is not an accredited course and participants will receive zero accreditation for participation.
The scope of practical training range from pattern making and garment design to the production process. Participants will visit and spend ample time at the exclusive AFH garment manufacturing plant in Midrand, rubbing shoulders with some of the top industry professionals.
Story boarding and illustration techniques form part of the theoretical modules of the 3-month program. An introductory module on Fashion Retail is also presented, enabling participants the opportunity to experience real world retail scenarios. The theoretical portion concludes with an introduction to textiles.
Participants will serve as interns to AFH consultants at our various branches, experiencing firsthand the ins and outs of the fashion business. From the initial client engagement and order discussion process to measurements and order processing, participants will be exposed to the actual workings of the fashion industry.
Throughout the entire process, participants will be mentored by industry experts and masters of the craft of tailoring and fashion design. We will hold your hand and guide you along showing you possibilities of growth within AFH whilst providing you with the opportunity to dream of your own reach within and outside the fashion world.
AFH is currently in a growth stage and is currently in the market seeking for trained talent, our first stop for candidates will be the in-house training facility. Successful candidates are almost guaranteed employment at the completion of their program are advised to work extremely hard to be considered for employment at AFH.
Learners get an initial feel of the fashion industry and its many components. Practical sessions include actual sewing classes using an industrial sewing machine and overlocker. Topics covered include; stitches, seams, disposal of fullness, types of pockets, finishing, fastening & openings, waistline finishes, and hems. Various projects will be conducted where participants will have the opportunity to build their first garment.
Seam allowances, grain lines, hems, darts and tucks are some of the terms partipants will be introduced to in this module. At the end, learners will have the ability to utilize pattern making tools and manuals. Learners will also get the opportunity to understand the body and garment measurements process whilst also producing sizing charts. Laying out, cutting out, pattern grading and pattern manipulating are some of the topics covered.
This module introduces the visual side of the industry. Learners will take part in technical drawing classes and will have to learn about different body types and how to camouflage figure irregularities. Learners will also have to develop their own creative portfolios. Storyboarding and concept boards will be introduced. Topics around fabric printing, tye & dye, stencil printing, spray printing and batik will be introduced.
Getting your finished garment to the final user in the best possible quality is paramount to remain relevant in the industry. Learners are introduced to the concept of quality control as it pertains to garment production. Quality control in: Fabric buying, fusing, stitching, pressing and in the final stages will be discussed. This module concludes the program and participants will be expected to write an examination afterwards.
For the Basic Sewing Course, we offer 2 payment options. On the application link you can choose to pay your entire tuition once-off, enjoying a discount of R1000 or choose to pay monthly. The monthly option requires a once-off registration fee of R500. Choosing the once-off option binds you for the duration of the course as refunds are not permitted however choosing the monthly option provides more convenience as participants can drop-out at any time with minimal losses.
